The decision to consolidate all of Fugro's seismic data processing operations under a single, focused, management team became effective 1 January 2005 with the creation of Fugro Seismic Imaging. The principals in the merger were the seismic processing divisions of Fugro Robertson and Fugro-Geoteam, with contributions from Fugro Geoservices and Fugro Survey.
Geoteam : Originally focused on onshore Survey and Geotechnical services, Geoteam was involved in its first seismic engineering contract in 1958. Throughout the 1960s, the company continued to grow and expand, becoming progressively more involved in geophysical services. By the mid-1970’s, the company had conducted its first offshore seismic survey, in the hostile and demanding environment of the Arctic waters off Jan Mayer and Spitsbergen islands. Fugro acquired Geoteam AS in 1994, renaming the company Fugro-Geoteam in 1997.
Robertson : The former Seismic Processing Division of Fugro Robertson traces its roots back to 1973 with the merger of two UK-based consultancies to form S&A Geophysical. Subsequently renamed Horizon Exploration, the young company expanded into both Land and Marine seismic acquisition and developed an innovative seismic data processing operation, with offices worldwide. Acquired by Simon Engineering, it formed the nucleus of the Simon Petroleum Technology [SPT] group, in which it was later joined by a number of other companies, one of which was Robertson Research of North Wales. Elements of SPT demerged from Simon Engineering in the mid-1990's, via an MBO led by the North Wales management team. The demerged company reverted to the Robertson name. In 2001, Robertson Research was acquired by Fugro.
